Wendy Jones - Artist Profile
Brought
up and educated in Cumbria and the Northeast, Wendy
specialised in Art while studying in Durham to be a
secondary school teacher. After gaining a Distinction,
she spent a year in London, studying Art and Pottery
at Camberwell
School of Art.
After qualifying, Wendy soon moved into primary education,
eventually becoming a Head Teacher and gaining a MA.
Nevertheless she continued to paint and develop her
distinctive styles.
Fascinated by design concepts, Wendy has been
influenced by patterns and designs in Middle Eastern
and Oriental fabrics and carpets, and lately by the natural world, especially inland and coastal landscapes in northern Britain and north-west France. Her
work shows an astonishing diversity of appearance and
theme but always celebrates her love of colour - sometimes
gentle, sometimes dramatic.
Wendy lives in North Yorkshire, painting with acrylics, oils and mixed media, making linoprints and creating her Venetian style carnival masks. She has exhibited in the Northeast, the Midlands
and Yorkshire; her work has been sold to many private collections
in Britain and abroad and she has undertaken several private
commissions.
Formerly at Farfield Mill, Sedbergh, Cumbria, Wendy's studio is now at Sedbury Hall Stables, near Richmond, North Yorkshire. It is down a long drive after turning left off the westbound A66, near Scotch Corner on the A1. Visitors are very welcome, but it is best to phone first to 01765 602680 or 01748 850405 to be sure she will be there.
